Day 23: If you had the supplies (and patience) for it, what project would you start today?
I’d start the shawl I’m going to knit for my future mother in law for Christmas. I need a really nice grey lace weight wool though first and as I’m more of a bright colours kind of person I’m struggling finding a grey I like. It’s for the Rock Island shawl on Ravelry:: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rock-island
I’d also start the hat I’m going to knit for one of my friends birthdays and the socks I plan to knit for another friends birthday.
Day 22: Have you ever stricken someone off your to-knit-for list because they didn’t appreciate/take care of your last knitted gift to them?
See this is dedication. It’s my birthday today and I’m still completing one of these :).
In answer to the question, yes, I spent months knitting that Scott Pilgrim hat and the guy I did it for just didn’t really appreciate it/hasn’t worn it. I’m quite annoyed tbf. So yeahh he gets no more knitted things!
hi i love that u post ur knitting on tumblr! i was wondering if u have ever knit socks? if so do you have any tips? ive tried countless times and i get confused when i have to do the heel and wrap and turnn and stuf...
Hiii :) thank youu. Not yet, but I really want to get into knitting socks. I have books and stuff and I’ve brought a set of DPNs for when I’m ready to start, but I have so much to knit first. If you know anyone who can knit then I’d ask them, or go to a local shop, I’m sure they would be willing to show you. If not then youtube videos are fantastic. I’ve learned a lot from the lovely people who post videos on youtube :)
Day 20: Do you knit in public? Was anyone offended/incredibly happy/curious that you were doing so?
I have knit in public, people just tend to stare or ask me what I’m doing. I knit at uni as well, it helps me to concentrate and no-one minds except one girl (who is kind of a MASSIVE bitch anyways) she seems to have a problem with it even though it doesn’t affect her in the slightest. But then again she also has a problem with the fact I work in a supermarket and assumes I’m stupid, despite the fact I consistently get better grades than her.
Anyways more people need to knit in public. I find when I do people always say “That’s awesome, I wish I could knit” or something along those lines.
I need to apologise for neglecting this blog again.
I’ve been soo busy :(. Between work and trying to apply for mitigating circumstances for my uni work I’ve been busy and stressed. It’s my birthday on Friday and I haven’t even planned anything yet. But I promise, if I get granted mitigating circumstances and am allowed to submit my outstanding assignments then once I’ve done that this blog will get all my attention (when I’m not at work or with my finacee :P).
Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while knitting? What are your favorite things to knit to?
I’m always knitting so I knit to a lot of things. I mostly knit to the TV or if I’m round my parents house then while I’m talking to them. Podcast wise I absolutely love the Knit Girllls. They are absolutely fantastic! LOOK THEM UP!! :)
Day 17: Have you ever had a project that you loved become ruined? What’s the story behind it?
Not yet no. I haven’t been knitting very long so things haven’t had chance to be ruined yet. However I have knitting things, that have been asked for, that have not been appreciated. But oh well, I enjoyed knitting them :)
My Mom ordered me the needles I’ve been pining after for weeks as a birthday present (I’m 20 this month). They are so sexual and I’m so excited, I just need to finish everything I’m working on so I can start a new project using them. One set is a sock knitting set that has a load of DPNs and the other is a set of interchangeable circulars. I’m gonna knit so many socks and pretty things :).
These are the two sets, they are the KnitPro Nova needles cos tbh I’m a metal needles fan.
Day 16: Have you ever had a knitting related injury?
Not as such no. I’ve had the usual pain and soreness on my finger tips that comes before you get your calluses. I’ve managed to poke myself in the face…don’t ask.
I’ve still not done as good as a lady I know who left her knitting needles wedged down the side of the sofa while she went and made herself a cup of tea, she forgot about them and then sat down…yeahh the needles got stuck. OUCH!
Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why?
I don’t think I really have a least favorite pattern as I tend to read them over beforehand to see if I actually want to knit something. Although if I had to say something, even though I enjoy the result, I hate lace knitting, mainly cos I actually have to pay attention to the pattern.
Day 14: What’s the worst yarn/fiber that you’ve worked with and why?
This is also the answer to “Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with?”. The Rowan Drift was a pain in the ass to cast on and I had to knit very carefully with it cos it was just tearing apart. However once I got the hang of being careful with it I liked the results :)
Day 13: Do you have yarn that you love but can’t find a project for?
I’m doing more than one today as I’m so behind.
I’m actually a pretty good girl when it comes to buying yarn. I only buy what I need for projects so I don’t have balls of wool lying around. I do have a lot of yarn I want to buy and need to find projects for but I just can’t justify buying it until I have something for it. That will probably change though.
I do have a problem with leftovers though, so I’m tempted to buy the beekeepers quilt to get rid of it!
Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures!
Ok so this is like 6 days late but I have been soooo busy lately, I’ve barely had time to knit let alone find time to take pictures of my stash. But here you go, it’s an absolute mess, all over my house with random balls of wool everywhere. One day I will organise it all.
I really shouldn’t have used a 10ply wool to do a lace scarf that the pattern says required a 4ply. I just couldn’t resist the wool though, the variegation of the colours was just too pretty. It isn’t coming out too bad tbf. I reckon it will be fine when it’s done.
Its the first proper lace work thing Ive done. I did a bit of lace work on the blanket I’m working on but this is a lot more complicated. It’s a present for my friends birthday next month. It’s gonna take a while though, it took me like 2 hours to do an 8 row repeat and sadly the living room light is broken so I can only knit in the day time. Although I might attempt some knitting by laptop and fish light. I’ll post some pictures when I’ve done a few more repeats.
I knit English, always have. But everyone else seems to throw the yarn with their index finger but I throw with my middle finger… It’s my way, but it seems odd now that I’ve actually realised that!
Everyone has there own ways that work for them. It was funny when I first started, my Mom shouted at me saying I was holding them wrong every time and now we produce pretty much exactly the same results. We can both knit on the same thing and it looks identical. So I don’t think it matters how you knit as long as it’s comfortable for you and produces the right results :D
Day 11: Do you have a “Knitter Hero” or someone that is just way too awesome for their own good? Do share!
I have two super awesome knitting heroes. One is my Mom. She’s awesome. She’ll drop anything to help me with what I’m working on and she is definitely where I get my knitting style and not being able to finish projects from.
Then there is the wonderful Maxine at work. She talks to me about knitting whilst we’re working and talks me through things that I’m confused about. She is an awesome knitter. She makes beautiful clothes that I would swear were shop brought they are of that high of a standard. She knitted 3 baby cardigans and crocheted a blanket in the time it took me to knit a baby hat and some baby mittens. She is just epic. Oh and she gives me wool :) and makes me brownies and cakes!
There is also my Grandma. I never got to meet her but its with her needles that I learned to knit and now knit with regularly. So she is also a knitting hero :D.
